Tony's 79

Figured I'd put everything in one post. I've posted different stuff in different places. I'm learning as I go so here goes...

This is what I started with. It looks great from a distance but had all the usual hidden rust...

I started with the subframe. When I started stripping parts I noticed a problem...

Apparently it was hit on the left front at some time in her life. BFH took care of that problem.

The stripping continues...

Prepping the A arms...

Painted with new bushings and ball joints...

Firewall stripped and primed...

The subframe got stripped with a wire wheel (that was fun) and I replaced the tie-rods, springs, idler arm, A arm bushings, and ball joints...

Decided to replace the mounting holes...

Shot of the subframe shining covered with POR-15...

Toeboard patches...

Framerail replacement...

Removed some cancer under the rear seat...

Replacement panel sitting in place...

Had some area of concern in the wheelwell so it had to go abd then the new piece welded in...

That's it for now. I'll post more progress as I make it :) .

Wow... lots of rust... good to see your being through! Do it right once and never again!

I like the job you did on those control arms... I'll be doing that myself here soon on my lowers!

I see a pattern here:) . Mine has some of the same issues. Good job on the repairs!!

Thanks guys! These cars seem to all the have the same rust issues. I'm trying to do it right. That's why I take so long...I tend to "overthink" everything. Can you say anal?!!

great work on that rust!

Got the drivers side rear pretty much taken care of. I still need to make a piece for the seam between the floor and wheelwell...

This side is next. Stay tuned...

Advice needed

This is what the passenger side looks like. Nowhere near as bad as the driver's side was but it does have some issues. No doubt that I need to cut out the section where the seatbelt mounts but I'm not sure what to do about the other areas. As you can see in the pics there are a couple of small areas rusted all the way through. Should I cut out just that area and patch it or should I do the same thing I did on the driver's side?

This is the part that has to be replaced...

This is the area I'm thinking about. Patch or replace? The area around it seems pretty solid...

I want to do it right but I don't want to make extra work for myself. Help!!!!

Geezus , how much was that car drove on the beach?j/k
I think the best thing to do is match what you done on the other side, that way you know what ya got. I love a man that is not scared to cut and weld and do it right. Keep up the good work!:)

LOL. I thought the same thing David. That is the way I'm leaning right now. Really not looking forward to it but I di want it done right. The PITA is getting the old out without tearing up too much metal. Putting in the new wasn't that bad at all. Oh well, at least I have a pretty good idea how to attack it. Thanks for the input. I'll keep the pics coming :) .
