1983 Girl vs. 1973 RS Camaro, it's a learning process!

Hello everyone!

This is my beautiful 1973 Rallysport! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CWha5iReRs

It has a mystery (crate or rebuilt not sure but clean!!!!) 350 engine purrs like a kitten! I bought it with...

Disk brakes all around, new pads and master cyl. (getting them working right is my only problem at the moment!)
A WS6 10 bolt Posi rear out of an 81 Trans Am Turbo.
New carpet, beautiful black interior.
Hooker Headers
New dual Flowmasters
Edelbrock carb 1407
K&N filter
Weiand intake
BFG tires and Z28 wheels

Since I got the car I have:

Replaced the windshield
Put the wipers on and got them working.(myself)
Replaced the left rear axle shaft
Peeled the paint off the front spoiler back to black!(myself)
Bought headlight bezels and put the on (myself)
Bought Weather Stripping kit and window sweeps and put some on today(myself)
Bought door panels (upper deluxe, lower and handle bezels)and will try to put them in myself.
Bought a rear window molding but will have someone else pull my window out clean the glass and install the molding. HAD TO FIX RUST AND DONE!
Um detailed the interior? There has to be some other minor stuff I just can't recall now.

I want to:
Get the brakes stopping on a dime found the shop to do it today :)
Replace the crappy headliner.
Get a radio.
Install my sound deadener on door panels and on rear dash* DONE
Rear dash*DONE
Run my exhaust all the way out the rear (it now dumps out before the axle which is loud and more powerful I guess but it stinks up my cab)*DONE
Replace my rear shocks and Springs (Hotchkis I hear is the way to go!) *QA1 Shocks for the rear DONE!
I REALLY need new springs and can"t afford the $1,200 hotchkis kit I want right now*DONE
Get my instrument panel working properly and well lit!*DONE
Paint!! Maybe Black with Gold stripes but I love the Orange so much It's just a lame paint job.*DONE
Upgrade my headlights to something really bright but not obnoxious.
Install some kinda anti theft*DONE
Fix my squeaky D on my shifter (Diagnosis: Shift linkage rubbing on headers)
Get modern seatbelts in if possible these weird lap belt hybrid things are a pain, I keep shutting em in my door.

Oh and a horn... I wish I had a horn :( *DONE!

Awesome job 83 girl. Starting to come along nice peice by peice and yah, they take time plus $$$$$. Good sound to it if that's a crate engine, cam sounds quite mild in it so I am guessing before long you'll be under the hood looking for upgrades to the pony that pulls it. Do get those straight pipes that go all the way out for breathing purposes, LOL it's not nice in the cab if your getting fogged out my Carbon.

Another nice touch might be going to the original steering wheel. What is the present one from.

Keep us updated on your project.

nice car looks to be in very good condition

That really is a nice car to start out with! Hell, it's nice as it sits right now! I love the orange. How did you find it?

woody80z28 03-18-2009 10:12:26 AM

That is a nice one to start with. I like the orange, I'd keep it! Black stripes would look good too. (My high school colors were orange & black).

Judging by the valve covers and intake I'd say it's a 1987-1992 engine. Not exactly powerhouses, but reliable propulsion.

Good luck with the brakes. I've spent a year playing with my upgrades and have yet to get it perfect! haha

I like it in orange. Kind of stand out. Orange with black stripes would look cool but hey it is your car. And what makes it even cooler is that it is a chick car. Way to go.

Man I'm behind now, you've only been a member for a month and already upgraded to GOLD! I want an avatar too! :whine:

I can see why you'd want a radio: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9sRD...eature=channel you must live in a nice part of LA, I figured most of it was bombed out like Detroit.

Keep the Camaro progress going and fend off the rust!!!

Nice vid, lol. Good luck with the car, it's nice.

Great Car! I like your plans on running your exhaust all the way out which will definitely make it much more fun to drive. I had it 'dumped' for a long time and I love not having the resonation any longer.
