The Intruder
Some of you may remember me and my wife CamaroAddict.
We're back with another 2nd gen. This time it's a 1980 T top Camaro all tarted up like a Z-28. The plan is to build this car with the small block out of Angie's 69 RS/SS and take it on the Long Haul on Power Tour in June. The car has a running 400 Pontiac with a turbo 350 that isn't shifting right.
Money spent so far? $1800 for the car and the parts car and $60 for towing.

Not long. I've already offered the motor and trans to a Pontiac buddy. He's trying to decide if he wants it. If not, it's headed to CL. The wheels will stay on until I get the wheels on the parts car cleaned up.

Been making a little progress. I installed the leather power seats out of a 4th gen Firebird I had laying around. I still need to install the rear seat. I've got a 700r4 here to rebuild. Once I get the parts ordered my buddy Kevin Cooper is going to help me rebuild it. Scrounging CL for a cheap intake to get the small block ready to drop in.

I'm looking at the parts I will need to get the motor swap going. The motor we are using is the 305 out of Angie's other Camaro. The plan is to build this one for cruising and good economy. Angie wants it to still have some lope to it, but the cam that's in the motor now is too aggressive. It's got a very choppy idle, and we want a daily driver / long distance car. Ideally we'd like better than 20 mpg. The rear axle is a 2.73 and we are using a 700r4. We don't have a good intake, but we are thinking about a simple Edelbrock Performer intake and a Holley 600.
We are looking at two cams right now. Both are Lunati VooDoo cams. I used one in my Lil Red Express and it was great.
The first is this one:

The second is this one:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/LUN-60101LK/
Both are mild cams. Would the 60102 be too much to try for our economy goal? Is the 60101 too mild to have any sound to the exhaust? We are running headers and flowmasters on the exhaust side.

Looks like you have a great project lined up! Will I be seeing you guys at Orangeburg or Dorchester drag way in the near future?
You can still have fun there with a daily driver!

With those gears and a small displacement engine? Unlikely.
Any thoughts on the cams?

Put an r/v type cam and intake on it for max torque to turn the big gears more easily....

I've always heard that R/V label, but I've never heard any specs of lift and duration for one. Is there a particular cam that comes to mind that you recommend?

Don't remember the cam specs, but had a Firebird 350/turbo 350 with a rv type crane cam and a edelbrock sp2p 4bbl manifold on it. 600 cfm vac sec holley carb. Got decent mileage (16-18). I used the car to pull a boat and it def had an increase in low end torque over stock. Ran good all around for what it was.

I appreciate the advice, but I don't think I can call Summit and ask for an RV cam. You see what I mean? The R/V label is too generic these days.
Any advice for a specific cam?

Call a cam company and ask what they have for your application....
