hello,i bought a 78 z28 with a 4 speed,so i joined.i took it home 12th of december 2011.
i wasnt completley sold on the second gen untill now.i love this car.never restored/built a car yet.i have done a few bikes, and guns.always wanted to,but just never did it.now im older a little more paitiant.so far i have removed the front clip, replaced the door hinge bushings.cut the right floor pan out,and removed all interier, back glass, tail lights.i bought a full passenger floor pan from ebay.going to fit great aftrt notching it in two places.just found a good local dash pad, saved some expected to spend money.i need to find a few more items, sand, prep and paint.going to modify the motor a little.designed a version of the del-alum bushings that i will make myself, already made a couple sets of solid subframe bushings.im still have not decided what color.

finally some work done

so ive painted the rear end, installed new brake cables replaced the leaf springs, and made my own version of delrin -aluminum-and 12l14 stell combo bushings.i have the rear half under coated.if i have time at work i will make some shackles, and bushings for thr rear too.if not i can istall those later.when its all said and done,i will have made all suspention bushings except sway bushings.allready have subframe bushings.installed prothane spring pads.they are real tight.the bottom plate was not wanting to reast against the spring pearch.

more pics later.i didnt reteive all my photos i guess.

Rearend ready

the rear axle is ready to go back,i have decided i will install the sway bar latter.im thinking about modifying the mounting and different bushing setup.i installed new shoes, cylinder kits, and cables.also a little paint.someday i will have rear discs, and a posi.if i could find a posi soon, that fits the budget.i will install it befor i wheel the axle under the car.now i can remove the subframe.clean measure the control arm bushings, machine, install.every time i have the car in the sun light.the doorsappear to need more adjusting.thats what started the tear down.

weird thing is every thing on the cow tag/vin reads factory 4speed.the guy i bout it from said his dad had specil ordered it,then wrecked in a week.said the factory fixed it.
so im not shure, the title reads that im the second owner.

i have a 4speed hump to install.it also has the nutserts for auto.

Finally had a little time to install the rear end,and seal, and dress up the fuel tank.i sealed it with Eastwood sealer.first time using it.the inside looked really good.then some Eastwood tank tone.i ordered a new sending unit from eBay.stainless, looks good.next to pull subframe, and attack the fire wall and dash/cowl area.i plan on using por 15, and chassis coat black.here is some pics.

Welcome aboard.. I had a 78 Z that color once. Sold it like a dummy. It wasnt a very good family car. I would like to know how you make the bushings. I need the sub-frame and all control arm ones. Nice job on the floor.

Thanks,I have an extra set of subframe bushings.they are solid aluminum, and .2 inches shorter, bare not painted.i should have my version of controller bushings soon. They are cnc aluminum and delrin.the rear leaf spring bushings are just uhmw-pe for the springs and for now I have stock in the frame for, until I have more thoughts about shackles and such.im in the process of trying to I crazy my life a little so my ideas have been sidetracked.if you would like body bushings, let me know the height.im not real share of the factory specs, but that looked a little forgiving.the rear spring bushings I made are grease able, and made so I can put in a traction system later if it works like I'm dreaming.would be glad to assist.
