Texas Jaguar Killer

So 2.5 yrs ago the wife and I started shopping for a early 2nd gen, not finding what we wanted we ended up with a 1994 Jaguar XJ6 with a Buick 350.
The car was done less than correctly and so we have spent quite a bit of time RE-doing things right.

Unfortunately for the the Jag I scored what we were looking for in the first place! $5K brought this baby home and guess where the blower is going! Yeah this baby KILLED the Jag project.

You wouldn't have been able to close the hood on the Jag anyway.
What will you do with it now?

Welcome to NastyZ..... Hope the Camaro project goes well for you!

I see you are located near my home town!

Kermit,TX.

I tend to be in Odessa for holidays because my family is still there.

I thought Broncho closed doors?

You got their part truck?!?

The old 915 area code too!

Good grief this was a flashback thread for me.

Broncho Chevrolet for those that don't know was the largest Chevrolet dealership between Dallas and Pheonix back in the day. They were also pretty heavily involved in the racing scene through the "back door" if you will. Never an official sponsor but always there. Years ago they were bought out by the Lithia group and with the move to palatial new digs came a new name All American Chevrolet. And another little piece of Hot Rod history died a quite death. With the current trend of Retro shop trucks and Rat Rods, I thought what the hell. So when I found a nice cherry 2 owner Luv with 70K miles and rough paint it was on! First a little research for the address and ph#, even though I grew up there and even worked there I had forgotten. Next it was off to the decal shop to have them do decals,,,,,,,whoa right there! DON'T peel that off yet! I had the decals peeled backwards, peel the letters leave the surrounding vinyl.

Apply this to the truck add a light primer coat then a light black top coat.
Peel the stencil and you have a nice painted sign. Next a little overzealous elbow work with some medium cut rubbing compound and

So it's a fake shop truck but even the old timers have been fooled trying hard to remember a Chevy Luv shop truck that never really existed.hahah
Yeah I have the hooker V8 mounts and crossmember, but I think it will stay stock for a long time.
The Jag well that's another story. It belonged to a local legend. A guy that built some of the very first V8 Vegas in our area. And though I had owned 2 of his Vegas in the past, the engineering in this car proved to be, well ,,disappointing. I bought the car with a rod hanging out of the block cheap. And built mounts for the Chevy 350. Next came a nice transmount and exhaust. I dropped in a used 88 350 and an overdrive automatic. The plan was a slow build up to a nice daily driver. Well a few years land speed racing kept it on the back burner. The Camaro showed up and now the Jag is up for sale unfinished. It needs pulley set up, driveshaft cut, motor wired, intake dist carb and hoses. It's up for sale for $1000. Which if it sells, will all go to the local High School Body Shop for supplies. If it does't sell I will donate it to the Mechanic and body shop programs to fix and sell. So you need something a little different? Here ya go!

First things first the initial drive showed the thing would not shift out of first till 4K rpm! 2nd around 3600 rpm. A quick look at the DISCONNECTED detent cable told the story. So I dropped the pan to find the cam lever and the wire end gone! No doubt removed by some fumble fingered DOUCHE in an attempt to make a race car. On the positive side of things, it has a deep trans pan with a drain plug! I had the parts in an old turbo350 and threw them in and SHAZAAM! It shifts. Problem is the cable sticks and the base leaks so it was off to the parts store for a new detent cable and some more fluid. That will be tomorrow.

LOL, I didn't know if they had one or not but figured you might have picked it up at a estate sell when they closed the door.

Beside I'm not a old timer, just 29!

Good luck on the camaro, got to love PO's handy work!

Yeah the PO's had 2 more "show cars" and like mine they look fantastic 5-15, driving by at 5 mph or from 15 feet. But up close, it's amazing how rough these cars really are. There is literaly no where the car hasn't been worked and the bodywork was pretty wavy. Overspray on the chrome, krylon on the door panels, more leaks than. 100,000 mile Ford Taurus! The nice thing tho is everything is available to make the car right. And like my buddy said"the next step up from here, the next NICER car is going to be $10K". Which brings out another point, I don't want a concours resto or a pro tour just a somewhat period correct daily driver, with a blower, and some Cragers, and maybe an AC. So hang around and we will see what happens.

Well this afternoon went off without too much effort quick install of the new detent cable threw on the pan, threw in a few quarts of type "F" yes type"F". Found out years ago a couple of quarts of F make GM trans shift harder. For the naysayers, don't sweat it, I'm going to have to throw a tranny at it soon anyway, it leaks like sieve and has multiple stripped bolt holes so a new trans is in it's future. Hooked up the detent and SHAZAAM! It's shifting right and the kick down is working right! So one problem down and about a million to go. Next on the hit list, gonna trash the carb and go to a Holley.
