Ouch on the engine decking, especially being a LA car. I wonder why he had JerryM restore the carb and not get the car certified, or at least the paperwork verified.
I wonder if the acid trick would work on the block?
It does have the M21 Vin with the odd LA "5" stamp, which is good.
Example of the 5 in the VIN on my LA 70Z CoPo:
What cars could get the M21 in 70? Just the Z28 and SS396 (both), correct?

Holy crap! It's the Colorado L78. I can't believe it's still in the same condition that it was years ago.

Holy crap is right! I to wondered what happened to this car. I seriously considered buying this car about 6 years ago when it was for sale last. At that time It sold for $30k. I decided against it because I already had one project and didn't need another one. Still would like to have it thou....

Scott, help me refresh my memory.. I started looking at my info and I'm a little confused. Are there two HO L78s out of Colorado in near identical shape? I thought I had the build sheet for this car but when I looked at it it is clearly a different car sold via Burt Chevrolet. I thought there was only one.

This is the same car that sold on ebay approx 6 years ago for $30k when prices were at their peak. At that time the car was in Kansas City and the seller had 2 engines, a modified 454 that was in the car and the original CKO block. At that time I don't recall the engine being decked because you could still read the build date & CKO code on the pad, however I do recall there being a lack of a stamped VIN on the block.
There was a discussion about it at that time.... I'll do a search and see if I can find it.

For those interested..... Here is the previous discussion on the Hugger Orange Colorado car from back in June 2006. Only the first 2 pages of the discussion really talk about the car, after that it gets a little off track. Unlike this time, last time around the seller had posted some photos of the block and it was NEVER really confirmed that this car has the original block, thou it is a real L78!
Unfortunately I'm unable to find my photos from back then

The Blue (green orig) one could not get to $13.5, looks like it was shilled to $12.6 (who would bid $12,600 and not go to $900 more?) In all fairness, it was backhalved.
Be interesting to see where this one goes. HO is very desireable.

Just spoke with Todd, the owner of the HO Ebay car, he got my number from my ad. He is going to see about signing up here to answer questions, but is not an internet kinda guy.
He is going to try an pull the fender and send me a pic of the hidden vin to post, and we talked about acid etching on the decked block to see if that brings anything up. He has some LEO connections and may be able to make that happen.
I also told him about using chalk on the rough cast and taking a pic w/o flash. I've had a few cars that I swore had no VIN there and when Jerry was certing them he used that trick and sure enough, the vin shows in the pics.
Also got a call from a guy named Mike from Houston that has a red 70 Camaro L78 project, #'s matching that has not seen the light of day in many years. I pointed him to this thread as well!

Did the LA plant stamp the hidden VIN in the same location as Norwood, behind the blower motor housing?? I don't think there's anything suspicious about the car, just the motor that's in question.
I know LA built Camaro's had the VIN stamp on the pad behind the alternator but I believe some if not most, 'early' built 1970 big block cars from LA had the engine VIN stamp down by the bell housing flange. My 03B, LA built L34 car was stamped down on the flange. At some point during the year they started stamping the vin on just the pad.

Interesting, just after I bought my L78 in the early 90's I talked to a guy from Louisiana who had a Red L78 Camaro, good shape, all there & running. He was asking $10k, lot's of $$ for it back then! I wonder if it's the same car??
