Firewall marking
I have been looking at these strange markings on the firewall of my 70 Z28 survivor, they are just above the heater box.At the LA plant they marked it with crayon that over the years has removed the black firewall paint. After studying them for some time now I belive I can see a B,P, and want appears to be but not real sure a T. Has anyone ever see this on a second gen. These marks are not stamped like 67-69 but written in crayon.

Don't the B, P, and T stand for Body, Paint and Trim?

Yes that is what they mean, but I have never seen them on a second gen., or marked with crayon instead of a stamp.

My Gold L78 has a B stamped on the inner fender when you look in through the door jamb with what looks like a ink stamp of some sort, I am sure I will find more when I start to disassemble the car. The hard part is how I am going to duplicate it. Lot's and lot's of pictures to document them.

My SS has a "10" written in I guess crayon on the firewall near the brake booster. BTW, my paint code is 10 for Classic White.

Firewall Markings for early second gen cars were the paint code(s) for the car. The car above had 26-26 on the Firewall.
I have seen a 1970 with the First Gen PTB stamp in the engine compartment. However it did not come with it. Eventually the guy fessed up and admited that he put it on there himself because he thought it was correct. It wasn't.

I can't speak for the 1970's, but I have never seen any firewall markings on a 71 or 72. I have had/seen some very original cars with no sign of paint codes or PTB inspection marks.

Here a new question. On A/C cars, like my 70, what firewall markings were visible and where. I don’t thing I have ever seen any marking on an A/C car but I thought I would ask the experts.

Regarding what Kenny Pascoe said, My car does have PBT in Green -if you are looking through the drivers door into the left front fender area -They could not have been put on after the car was built as you can't get to them. As far as I know the fender has never been removed-I will try to get a good picture of it-But How do you post it on the site?-Little Help please!

Hi Ben,
Just send or email me a pic when you have time. I will take care of it. (give it to chuck, that will keep him busy for the next 3 months)

I was tearing parts off of my 71SS today and I found a B stamped above the door hinge on the driver's side. I have the fender and door off, so I looked it over everywhere, but that is the only marking I found. It is a cortez silver car and the letter is stamped in green paint or ink.
