Hello all. A few months ago, I aquired a 1977 camaro with American-style t-tops. I have been told by a few people that they are kind of rare. Is this true? Since I am moving and need to sell the car, i am trying to figure out what it is worth. The body is in good condition(arizona car) but needs a paint job. The interior is ok and the engine is a crate 350 with about 15000 miles on it with a th350. The car is in decent condition with a few squeaks here and there but nothing major. Any ideas what this car is worth? Thanks in advance guys! -Pat

A 77 Camaro with TTops is fairly uncommon because Chevy didn't make any. The TTops were added after it left the factory, so there really isn't any way to know how many got the TTops.

One problem with American Hatch T-Tops is that I have never seen replacement weatherstripping anywhere.....not even NOS.....doesn't mean that they aren't out there I just haven't seen any. I do believe the American Hatch is the most "uncommon" of the three (Hurst, American and C&C. Any 77 camaro T-Top has some "rareity" to if but for the most part it may actually hurt the value in some respects for those purists even though the tops are correct for the year. I happen to like the T-tops. Can you send me some pictures and history on the car? VIN number, etc. all that stuff. I think I saw your car listed on the internet......you are moving to NYS correct?

We have our sites set on Tucson at the end of next year. Why are you leaving?

Your car is nice, the tops are definatley not factory. I think they started t-tops in 78.

to rhinehart 1977 RS LT: I was actually surprised when i got the car because the t-top seals are in real good shape. From what I understand and can decode from the vin, it is an original 305 car from van nuys. I bought the car about 8 months ago from a guy in phoenix and have done some things to improve the car( a few interior things, changed out power steering pump, tune-up). The car currently has a gm crate 350 with a th350 trans/ Here is a link to the car http://tucson.craigslist.org/car/711459262.html. I am moving back to NY.

to Damon23: I am originally from NY and have just graduated from the University of Arizona. So now I am moving back home. You are correct, as far as I know camaros did not come with t-tops till 1978. Since mine are the american type, they are definitely aftermarket.

I received a call from a guy who said that there were less than 10, 1977 camaros with american t-tops left in the Usa. I am basically trying to confirm or get more information on this so I can get a better idea on the value of the car.

Yes, I am a native New Yorker and I love it there. Believe it or not, Tucson has a higher crime rate than most places in New York. This is one of the main reasons I am moving back. Also, their car laws are kinda silly. For example, any car 1966 and newer must be emissions tested in Tucson.

I have a 1978 z28 with the american t-tops on it, like the one person said I have not found after market seals or for that matter yours is the only other camaro I have come across with them on. I would love to know how the person that called you knew the numbers of camaros that had that brand of tops for that year, maybe he would know how many 78's had them. Nice car anyhow.
