70 camaro vin tag decode

    trying to decode the vin tag under my hood ST70 12487 NOR 322976 BDY TR 730 67-67 PNT 06D . THE CAR HAS F-41 SUSPENSION AND LOOKS LIKE A BB HEATER BOX HAS ALUM BUMP STOPS ON THE LOWER CONTROL ARMS HAS CONSOLE WITH AUTO TURBO 350 HAS THE ORIG HANGERS FOR TRANSVERSE MUFFLER HAS ORIG REAREND CRX CODE MULTILEAFS I DIDNT GET ORIG MOTOR WITH THE CAR AND DOESNT HAVE FLLOR MOUNTED GAS PEDAL I DONT WHAT THIS CAR IS MAYBE AN SS BB BLOCK CAR ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT THX:confused: :confused: :confused:

    Did you look for a build sheet unde the carpet, behind the seat panels or above the gas tank?

    That would tell you everything you want to know about the car.

    we know its not a 6 cylinder as the alpha numeric sequence on the tt would be 12387 . the one shown in 12487 . besides that ???

    From what I've seen, the Second Gen Camaros did not use the 12378 on the cowl tag. Only the VIN differentiated between the V8 model 12487, and the 6 cylinder model 12387. I believe that the 12487 on the cowl tag indicates only Camaro Sport Coupe body.

    Earlier GM cars had the same numbers on the cowl tags and the VIN tags for this part of the model.

    However, we know it shouldn't be a 6 cylinder model by the TH350 tranny, unless that has been switched out. A 6 cylinder should have originally had a Powerglide tranny.
