I was trying to find some info on my grandpa's Guitar. Its a Standel I dont know what model it is but its a hollow body electric he bought in the late 1960's early 1970's. He told me before he passed that there was only 4 of this model made. I dont know how to find out what model it is so I was wondering if anybody knew of a website or some place I could call for info on its value. He also has a standel amp thats huge like 5 feet tall. he was told once that the guitar and amp together was worth $20,000 to the right buyer.

Thanks hope one of you have some knowledge about this.

Try to find one in your state, much closer to you.
Don't let it out of your sight or parts could be swapped and you'd never know.

    That was just an example.

You can send pictures of it to "elderly instruments", or "gruhn guitars" in nashville, they are the experts.

Standel was more know for thier amps than thier guitars. They only made guitars in the 60's. They didn't actually build the guitars themselves but licensed the name and where built by independant luthiers (luthiers are guitar builders).

The first Standel guitars and never got further than a few Telecaster-shaped, single-cutaway prototypes that were very similar to the Mosrite guitars of the time.

One of the best-known Standel models is the solidbody Custom, manufactured from ’66 to ’67, the Custom was made in Bakersfield, California.

In 1967 Strandel made one last ditch effort to build guitars. They were made by a guy named Sam Koontz out of NJ and he only made approx 300 units across all model lines for Standel between 1967 and 1969. This includes the 420 s and the 520 s, the 920 hollow bodies, the Eagle, the Lark, the 811 Archtop, and the 1000 S Archtop. This sounds like the type you have.

They go for anywhere from $7500 - $10,000. Post up a pic and we can figure out what one it is specifically.
