I called a machine shop around where i live and he said it would cost $110 to machine my forged 327 crank. Does that sound like a fair estimate?

What are they doing for $100? Checking it for straightness, indexing it, turning the crank, polishing it, chamfering the oil holes, and then balancing it (with the rods and pistons)?

My 502 crank was 200.00 to turn, which I did think was high. But, 50.00 was just for magnafluxing. Things cost alot here on the east coast.

Turning a crank around here is about $150. They turn and polish it, check it for straightness, and straighten if needed.

P.S. - Don't ever watch someone straighten your crank if you can help it.

100 bucks to turn to 20 under, polish journals and take as much weight off as possible then balance it. it was the original crank and had too much mass for my HP so they lightened it prior to balancing.

when i got it back i lost a lot of weight and it looked like it got a bad hair cut.
