This has been the typical shape for the BB upper hose #3979192 on the 2nd gen cars.
(As well as small block - showing different number -->3970124)
all the resto houses sell this shape - I believe it is wrong.

After researching a while - I think I have an exact match on what it is REALLY supposed to be.
Here is one I made (top), next to the original hose I found.

What do you guys think? - Is this correct? :)

I am still looking for an original BB lower - any one have one?

Pacecarjeff:I believe the original hose has a slight bend at the thermostat housing, some repros do not have this bend.

I need to find an original 124 hose also -
I believe that shape is not exactly right either.

Hear are 2 Original 1970 Big Block upper hoses, The hose on the bottom is the Original L78 upper hose and clamps from Kentucky Gold.
The middle one is a GM upper hose from a 70 L34 I parted a few years back. The Top hose is “Not Even Close”. It is a Piece of $hit Reproduction!
It has the correct markings; but it is JUNK!!!

Thanks - do you have pictures of the lower hoses too.
I would like to see them.

That is kinda what I was saying, the repro hoses for these applications are not right.
I want to try and produce them exactly correct.

The 3970124 hose was designed for a/c cars, at least in SBC form. The 3970120 was for non a/c cars.

You can use the 124 hose on a/c or non a/c cars, but you can't use the 120 hose on a/c cars because the hose is very close to hitting the a/c pulley or belt.

I guess they just wanted to simplify parts stocking.

I don't show a 3970120 hose in any of my books.
Do you have a picture of an original hose?
From what I can see, the 124 hose is noted for ALL SB Camaros 1970-75 SB.
I don't think the current repro shape being produced is exactly right.

Below is the hose shape for the 3970124 that I believe is more like the original.
However - I don't want to change over from the other one (way at the top of this thread)
until I get another original example to compare to.

I had one for a short time, but it was very early in my research, and I had to send it back to quickly.

    Edit...........
I have now determined that this hose above, is the correct shape for the 3970120 non H-Duty Radiator. Broadcast code JN.

    Pacecarjeff,

Sorry, I don't have any pictures, wish I did though. My GM Parts Manual 1977-81 lists the two hoses as described. It also shows the same in the assembly manual. I no longer have my original 3970124, but I have seen the 120 hose and it is much straighter than the 124, since it doesn't have to "go around" the a/c clutch and belt.

I'll dig up my GM Illustrated Parts Book and have a look for an illustration.

Just looked through my AIM for 1970.
There it is- page 79 -UPC6/B3 --- the hose called for for the small block V8 is the 3970120.

Don't find the 3970124 hose listed in this .....
and I don't see the BB hoses in this thing anywhere ???
