I just bought a starter at the swap meet in Bennington, VT, last Friday. The starter has a "rebuilt" sticker on it but there were no Delco-Remy stampings on the case. I bought it because it had a cast iron housing. The cast iron housing is the same type used on the 1108418 starter. It has "611" casting number on it. Does the "611" represent the 61st day of 1971 (March 2, 1971)?

    M21RSZ28 has a 1970 starter stamped "1108418" and "0 E 15" (May 15, 1970) with a cast iron housing with a "720" casting as shown in the thread entitled "70 Z28 starter questions" on 03/18/2009 @ 6:01:33 PM in the link below.
    Does the "720" represent the 72nd day of 1970 (March 13, 1970)?

I would appreciate any comments from those who own complete original 1108418 starters to compare the stamped date code with the casting number on the cast iron housing.

    Mark,

It's possible that the "680" casting might represent the 68th day of 1970 (March 9, 1970) on your May 22, 1970, stamped starter. Two starters check out but many more are needed.

    Thanks,

    Dave
