Pair of Calif blue passenger car plates with 1970 and 1971 stickers, number 812AVI, excellent condition. These are correct for 1970 cars. Have been indoors in my collection since 1971. Not cleared with DMV. $100.

I just checked the California DMV website and 812AVI (also 812 AVI) is a clear plate. FYI... I recently put blue plates purchased on Ebay on my 71 through the California DMV YOM (year of manufacture) program. The year sticker MUST be on the upper right and it must be a green 71 sticker. The plates you have will work on either a 70 or a 71 so depending on what year you'll need to move the sticker to the upper right side. The plates I bought had the 71 sticker on the left side and 70 on the right so I carefully peeled off the 71 sticker and stuck it on over the 70 sticker with some superglue enough so that the rep at the DMV could see it. Of course I now have JAN on the left and 2020 on the right.

So the plates could have an orange 1970 sticker in the top right corner for just 1970.

Thanks for the info. Didn't know I could check the availability of a number on line. And you're right the format is 812 AVI. At the time, the 1970 sticker went on the right, and the 71 on the left, so these plates are that way. I got these plates in a junk yard in 1972, so they're original and nice.

Are the license plates still available? And it's possible to get a picture of them if they are available. Thank you

Camaro's Blue License plate.jpg In the late 196o's Camaro's Blue License plate.jpg Calif phased in the blue and yellow plate while phasing out the the Black and yellow plate. At that time Passenger car plates were 3 numbers followed by 3 letters. The year of expiration was colored coded and was applied to the upper right of the plate and the month of expiration went in the upper left. Two consecutive year stickers i.e. 1970 & 1971, were not authorized to be displayed on passenger cars or light trucks. The above plte was issued about 1976 or 77.
