    Found this build sheet on ebay tonight. A little hard to read but looks like another '78 Z/28 Automatic with CHT code.

    Thanks for the info JJ999, appreciate that input. Too bad some of GM's engine code books appear to have the wrong info in them, thus it gets reprodcued on the 'net and is hard to overturn. This thread is a start to correct that info for '78 Z/28's with the manual transmission. Thanks again, like to see some pics of your Z, post them up sometime!

    Was decoding my carb and found that the last number denotes manual or auto transmisiion. I have a 78 Z28 with manual transmission and the last digit on carb is an odd number wich means manual trans mission. My carb # brakes down to this.

    17058203
    1705= denotes decade produced
    702= 1960's
    704= 1970-1975
    1705= 1976-1979
    1708= 1980
    1705(8) = year produced - 1978
    0 = 1980
    17058(2)= Q jet Federal
    0= mono jet
    1= two jet
    2=Q jet federal
    3= mono jet california
    4= two jet california
    5=Q jet california
    170582(0)= chevy
    0,1,2 = chevy
    3= cadillac
    4= buick
    5= olds
    6,7= pontiac
    8= marine
    9= speciel
    1705820(3)= manual trans.
    even= auto trans.
    odd= manual trans.

    So mine is a 1978, Q jet Federal, Chevy, Manual transmission which matches with the car and all info i have with it. The motor is a CHS code.

    One more link in the chain?

    James

    Good job on the carb breakdown Flashback. My car has an aftermarket Holley on it, but I did come across a member selling a Rochester carb in the Swap Meet a while back. I bought it from him because it decoded just as your's did and has the same numbers on it 17058203.
