Do we have any present or past front-wheel drive Monte Carlo SS owners? I am interested in hearing from owners of the front-drive V8 Monte Carlos. I have found a 2006 that is for sale.

They seem to be pretty decent cars I don’t get a lot of calls For parts on them the only thing I’ve really noticed a pattern on which applies to all of the 5.3 Powered Front Dr. cars is the transmissions don’t tend to hold up to a lot of abuse.

I had a 2002 Monte SS for around 6 years it had the 3.8 V6 in it I loved that car put almost 200K miles on with no problems

We owned a Pontiac GXP which is the same platform I believe with the 5.3 transverse-mounted motor. In all honesty, it was a nice car but the worst car I've ever owned as we had perpetual and chronic problems. Including with the transmission as noted above. We had to replace multiple alternators, water pumps, cooling fan issues, constantly had oil leaks, DOD issues and it only had about a hundred and twenty thousand miles when we sold it. Ours was a 2006 as well. I wouldn't touch one with a ten-foot pole.

It was a cool idea but the 4T65E was a POS transmission.

Very cool idea... and the 4t65e is not a weak trans, coupled with the strong v6 it was designed to hold they are damn near indestructible. But the pairing of the 300hp v8 just pushes its limits past the max when driven spiritedly.

It’s obviously not too indestructible if it can’t handle only 300 hp

Love me a 3.8. I have a Buick with 180K on it right now, love it.

Definitely one of the most reliable engines GM ever produced.

We were putting those 4T56E's in a lot at Pontiac when I worked there. Lots of failures, they did not hold up well behind the LS front drive for us. You are right not many problems with the V6 stuff
