Im in the market for a good used truck, but im wondering how many miles is too many for the 5.3? Ive currently got a 2002 yukon with a 5.3 and a smidge over 100k and it still runs like a new one, so I guess they are good for 100k anyway.

So my question is, how many miles can you expect to get out of the average 5.3? 150k? 200K? 250+K? If you have a high mile ls motor please chime in and tell me what to expect on the average.

I dont have any experience with those motors, but I would say it would be the same as any other. All depends on the Maintenance of the vehicle from the prev owner. Keep up with the maintenance and take care of any little problem right away, and they should last a few hundred K miles..

Well my best freind is driving my old 01 1500 z71 w/ 190k on the clock around still. It doesnt smoke at all and still runs great, not sure what the average life of these engines are but with proper maintenance they seem to last a LONG time!

Also the motor has been ran hard and was far from babied its first 130k until I sold it and he still drives it just like I did. But it has had proper maintenance and oil changes from both of us!

I agree with SpeedAddict02. All depends on the maintance of the vehicle from day one. If you did regular maintance and oil changes from day one then it should last 150K, 200K, 250K, etc.... I drive 80 miles a day to work and all my vehicles go over 150K. I use Mobil 1 oil on all my vehicles after I break-in the engine and I never have any mechanical internal issues with the engine.

    I'd think the same.

Sensors and what not will have to be replaced obviously.

    Finally back home!!!
My grandparents have an 05 Chevy with a 5.3 and they drive EVERYWHERE. I don't know how many miles it has on it but I'm sure it has upwards of 200k as much as they drive it. Still running fine as far as I know.

I have a 2000 Tahoe with a 5.3L engine with 126K miles on it. I would have to say that any motor that can last through me is a good one! LOL!
