Buy an old stock car cage for $100, cut the body off (lose 1,000 lbs off the car), and make a rail buggy out of the thing.

I wouldn't worry about the power, especially if it's going to be a beatemup car. If you start looking at swaps you'll see the money start going quick. I've always felt that an underpowered beater that you can run the crap out of can be just as much fun as a overpowered car that can spin the tires all day long. Vehicles get interesting when you take them to their limits; shouldn't be too hard to do in that!

A freind had a brat in high school we would take it trail riding and drove the crap out of it road rally style.Had a few of those types of cars, get them cheap, have fun with them, bang'em up see what the'll take before they die, their headed for scrap anyway,a good time when you are in your late teens early twenties.Probably still fun but I don't think my older body would bounce back.Fun times everyone should have.

I'm starting to think i might just use the drivetrain and build a small sized 4wd sand rail with it
