The oil pump is working fine I'm not sure what could have caused this other than not adjusting the valves like they should have. That's the main thing right there. I've drained the oil and too my surprise the metal build up is not as bad as the lifters make it look. When the guy did the heads he said he didn't see anything out off the ordinary with them.
I have a guy that I'm going to take it to for the rebuild next spring. I'm not planning on driving it much during the winter anyway. Getting rid of the engine is not an option at this point since I brought it because it's a numbers matching car. If I'm told it's not worth rebuilding I'll have no choice at that point.

Good news. If the damage is not that bad, you could go .030 over, and still have the original engine. Just be aware that if they deck the block, that process could remove the stamping numbers. So, voice that concern from the beginning. Some places don't think to ask, and they do it as a "normal" service, so they don't think about the ramifications.

If the oil pump was working fine, I'd have those valve springs checked and the rockers (1.5 ratio). Did the oil have zinc in it?

I used his method when I put it back together and it worked just like he said. I actually did 4 full rotations being safe but 2 of them was just because......... I didn't have to adjust anything.

Get a shroud behind that radiator and it will run nice and cool.
