What is the best converter for a 4L80E? Is anyone running the converter from a 4WD truck? I am considering using the stock converter out of my 4wd doner truck, for now just to get the thing driveable ( and save a little cash right now). But I am not sure if that is going to cause any issues, and I also want to know what is reccomended when I do buy a new one thanks.

I went with a yank ss convertor for mine with a 3400 stall. Its only 9.5" versus the stock 13", but you need to get a ls1 flexplate too. I bought both just before christmas for 800 shipped. Great build your doing by the way.

I am running the factory converter that was in the G30 van that I pulled the tranny from. I just drilled and tapped two 1/8NPT holes 180* from each other in the lapweld, and flushed it REAL good. Then put in flush plugs with loctite. Did the TH350 converter in my truck the same way.

I've always wondered why torque converters never had drain plugs.

I was thinking the stock one would be okay for a while, until I do a head and cam swap. The converter came out of my truck, which had a trans flush about 1300 miles before it got wrecked. I dumped a little fluid out of it and it still looks and smells brand new.

You will be fine until you do the cam swap...
