    ...it's still in the car?

Wondering if I can get someone local to open the case and inspect it, then repair/replace components without removing the axle from the car.

    Has anyone done this?

all the time, need to get it high in the air if done on the ground, lift would be preferable.

Had a buddy years ago that worked construction. Came home Fri. night, jacked his Chevelle up, changed ring and pinion, went racing all weekend. Sunday night put in the highway gear for the week. Took him about 20 minutes start to finish.

But I would much rather have it on the saw horses to work on and get it right - while I'm standing up.

It's done all the time, a lift makes it much easier.

The transverse muffler in my car made this a tight fit.

I changed mine with the rear jacked up and me laying on the ground.
