Hey guys, I was tightening down my TH350 tranny to the motor when the transmission housing cracked. Can I simply get this welded/repaired or am I dealing with a bigger issue???

not impossible to repair, but it may not be worth it.

my question would be, why did it crack, there should be zero load on that ear when you are tightening it. I'm guessing you didn't have the converter seated... which means you may have damaged the pump putting that much load on it

good point...i made sure the convereter was properly seated though.

i am going to have my buddy repair the crack tomorrow, it does look a lot worse in the pics than in person.

Only one thing that caused the bell housing to crack and that is that the converter wasn't completely seated into the pump. IF you are lucky, it didn't destroy the pump. Most likely it did and, at the minimum, you're headed to a new pump BUT most likely, are going to need a whole new transmission.
