Good point...I'll give Mike a call on this. Never heard about measuring the O.D., but certainly makes sense. I would expect if a heavy cut were made, the cap would be looser than normal. Would like to get a restamped housing to measure against mine...hmm...I have my 019 and 1-2 other worthless housings from the same era...could certainly compare them with a caliper.

Funny about the OD. The distributor that came in my car when I purchased it back in '78 was blank...no numbers stamped. Not turned (folks didn't do that back then) and is actually about 0.002 inch smaller in diameter than my 2019 distributor

I imagine it may have some value to someone wanting to create a restamped one.

By the way, sorry to hear about Bud. I never got a chance to meet him but sounds like a nice guy.

I don’t think would effect the cap.. no need to go that high.

The diameter where the car fits is actually by design a bit smaller. If you turn the base area down far enough to remove the factory stamps, it could go so far as to remove this step altogether which is very easy then to see or if you cut the step down the cap gets loose on the diameter.

That stamp looks good to me. Here is a 9M14 I have. Yes the 0 is better aligned but everything else looks the same. Does it have a MS201 vacuum pod? what is the cam stamp? 20190307_170312.jpg

Delco Remy or whoever made them sure made a lot of 2019 distributors that day!
Only thing I noticed different in picture of post #1 is that the '019' is offset whereas all the other pictures the numbers seem to be lined up.

GM sells blank housings. I had to buy one in '85 due to slop on the bushings on my orig housing which I still have and took a photo of it in the post up top. Plus GM didn't stock any shafts in '85 which I would have picked up for a better fit in the new housing.

Thanks Mark. Always wondered where a blank housing would have come from. It has all the right internals (cam, vacuum advance, etc) for the LT-1 just a blank housing. Makes sense now.
