Car has remote adjust driver mirror. Im in the middle of restoration and have the door off the car, window out and cant for the life of me figure how to get the mirror off. There are 2 bolts coming through the door from the mirror. The rear most one is easy and you can put a socket straight on. The front one , just ahead of where the remote cable comes through, is hidden inside the inner door metal. I see VERY little room to get to the nut. Any input ?

It comes off from the outside.

    At least, it should.

Remove the screw at the rear of the base and it rocks up and off.

The bracket beneath the base is screwed through the door skin and into a thicker piece of steel inside the door skin.

If there are nuts inside the door it’s because someone stripped out the screw holes.

This thread has pics of the proper hardware.

I got the mirror unbolted. Its not the factory mirrors. Im including a shot of the mirror and the adjuster as now the issue is how to get the whole thing through the hole , pics attached. mirror.jpg adjuster .jpg in the hole control stick.jpg

Does the small handle/knob-shaft unscrew? Hard to tell in the 2nd pic, but is there a clip or anything that holds the inside knob-shaft into that plastic body? Someone got it through that hole...has to come back out!

Even if the knob did unscrew , that black turrent under it is where all the wires attach , and its not going thru the hole. Im stumped.

Replacing the mirror with the factory style may be your best solution. (In which case, you can cut the cables and scrap this oddball mirror.)

whats funny is i went junkyard diving last week and found a gen 2 with factory mirrors intact. Took the passenger off, then went to get the driver side. Turned out to have remote also. but guess what, both doors are bashed in solid with good glass and car is stacked on top of another car. No way into the car :(
