Exhaust manifold stuck on head

    Anyone know any tricks to un-stick stuck on exhaust manifolds?

    Cast iron exhaust manifolds on iron heads? If you have all 6 bolts off per side, give them a couple good smacks with a heavy dead blow hammer and follow up with the pry bar treatment. Odd though, if they were installed with factory gaskets, they usually come right off.

    A lot of these manifolds were put on at the factory with no gaskets, get rusted into the head. Give a good soaking first with loosener, then the above beat and pry.

    I still don't ever use gaskets on mine and the manifolds have been off several times.

    Do the same thing I do with stuck bolts, heat the area around the head and manifold where they meet then melt wax into it, hit it with a dead blow hammer and it should break free. I cannot honestly say I have ever had a manifold that would not come off with out the bolts, that's a new one on me.

    Maybe someone welded it to the head.

    dont laugh. I had someone do this on my 82 Camaro. gives a whole new meaning to "custom exhaust".
