So that's where they put the evap canister... I always wondered about that. Clever.

That gives me an idea, actually...;)

3rd and 4th gen tank are essentially the same.... I put a plastic 4th gen tank in my 91 direct bolt in, only "mod" you have to do is trim the rubber hose from the filler neck to the tank. I cut mine a little too short and the filler is too far down the hole. Still works though.
My thought was to try to get a 4th gen tank in the back of my 71 somehow. Eventually I will get around to seeing what it will take to work.

JJ, yes you can do the pump like you mentioned and it will work BUT .. with no baffle or sump to draw from it might suck air during hard cornering or breaking if the fuel tank is low on fuel.
A friend of mine is an engineer at FAST that has a second gen that he just put an inline external pump on to feed a pretty stought sbc 550/600 hp with no trouble on casual cruising. Im sure he would admit he would rather have a sump but it works and hes a frugal guy. ha ha On my second gen , I have a morosso type sump welded in and I mounted a Walbro pump to sit in the sump and it has worked well for me (9.80 @138) For hard cornering it would probably hick up but for what I do, it works fine.

The orange hotchkiss camaro with the LS1/T56 had a 4th gen tank. I seem to recall the write up mentioned they did something with the filler neck. Will have to dig around and see if there is an active link, I believe they have since sold it.

Bear, if you have a 2nd gen tank bring it over soon and I'll drag out the plastic 4th gen tank I have to compare. I can't imagine the 4th gen tank working w/o big mods. See if btk or angry phil has a late 2nd gen tank.

Someone tried this before and put the 2 tanks side by side
4th gen is narrower but taller. More boxy. 2nd gen is more pancaked rectangular
4th gen tank on a 2nd gen would hang down and look bad from the rear IMO.
    But I'm just speculating.

IIRC it's not going to work very well. I looked into this before I forked out the
$500 + on the new tank and fuel pump mods.

Aces I agree I think big floor pan mods would be needed but for the curious we will research it.
