As most folks are aware, AFR just released re-designed SBC heads and lots of folks are curious as to how they fare. Joe Sherman did a dyno test of the new AFR 195 heads on an 11:1 383 for Hot Rod magazine last month, and reported yesterday on another forum that he was impressed with the results. The engine was tested on his own dyno, on 91 pump fuel, and he said he "did not even get to tune it up."

    The highlights below:

    383ci
    11:1 compression
    259° @ 0.050" roller cam, 106° LSA
AFR 195 heads (new design - out of the box)
    850 BG carb
    Super Victor intake
    91 octane pump fuel

    615 HP @ 6700 RPM, 528 lbs/ft torque @ 5200 RPM

He didn't say what future issue this test will be in. Looks like the era of the affordable 600HP pump gas 383 has arrived. Just thought I'd share.

LMAO, Mike, you change 'plans' more than my wife changes the furniture around! You would be big $'s ahead to set a HP and ET goal and work straight towards it.

I take any of these magazine articles with a grain of salt, but I'm sure they are impressive heads.

No actually the 383 has been planned I scratched the 10.9 et goal with a 350 due to wasted money, The big block thing was just a one night Idea because It was sitting there calling but im back on track now just a 383 pump gas and solid 10 sec even in the summer is my goal.
