The LSx (4th gen) fuel tanks are plastic, correct? SO you can't just cut the top off one and weld it to a 2nd gen tank?

Correct. But someone in another thread cut out the top of a tank from another vehicle and welded that to the top of the Camaro tank, may have been from an Astro van?

    Fuel Gauge

    FirebirdTA79:

Do you know what the ohms resistance on the 98-02 F Body pump is for the fuel level gauge full and empty? I have read its different from the typical 0-90 GM style. Please let me know if you know this info. I have all aftermarket Autometer Pro comp gauges in my camaro, so I can just purchase a new fuel level gauge to replace my current one.

    Thanks Nathan

    Maybe this will help...

I'm also not using anything above the bucket. I'm simply using the bucket which I shortened to fit the early tank, the fuel pump and associated jet pump venturi thing and not much else. Using the C5 fuel filter/regulator externally and my pump feeds fuel to a 3rd gen sending unit.

the stock sender is 40 empty and 240 full , that is reverse of what the auto meter gauge will read ( 240 empty 33 full ). to fix this I bent the top of the stock fuel float arm 180 degrees so that it reads the GM scale backwards. If you want some pics let me know.

I plan on using the stock 1978 fuel float.. I don't feel like buying a new autometer guage. Can you tell me what color wires (from the 1999) control what?(fuel pump power, etc) Thanks

ahhhh I see. The fuel pump screen is actually INSIDE the bucket! Now that makes sense. I was trying to figure how the stock pump was able to pull from 2 different locations in the bucket.....outside the bucket.....all is well now continue forth and conquer. :)

Is this just the case for lsx fuel pumps or did they start it in the lt1?
