Okay, this just dawned on me yesterday.
    I just bought a 2004 GTO LS1 + 4L60 to put in my 78Z.

How the hell can I put this on an Engine hoist to lift it and angle it into the bay???
The way I've ALWAYS seen it done is a mounting plate attached
to the manifold and a hook and chains lifts it that way........
with the plastic plenum intake I can't do it that way.....
how the hell am I going to do this ??

I've parted out over 100 Camaros and Firebirds in the past five years and many were LS1s. We used lifting tabs from other GM engines, the long flat ones from 4.3 S10s work the best. We attach one to the front of the right cylinder head where the EGR bracket bolts on and the other one to the rear of the left head. All you'd need to make a pair of these is a strip of mild steel 1/8 to 3/16 thick, approximately 10 inches long by 2 inches wide. Drill a 3/8 hole in one end to bolt it to the head and drill a one inch hole in the other end for your chain. Having them this long will help keep your chain away from the delicate parts on top of the engine. Just be sure to use short enough bolts that they won't bend when you lift the engine. I like to put a few washers in between the lifting strap and the head too, to avoid marking up the aluminum.

It's been a while since we did any but I'll look to see if we have any kicking around. We used to sell a ton of engines on eBay but we bought a shop and decided to concentrate on one fixing cars. Those tabs are very handy but my help had a bad habit of leaving them on the engine and shipping them so it may be tough to find a pair. I'll let you know either way.
