My hood SUCKS! to open!

    My 79 used to pop with 1 pull then you could lift the hood freely. When I removed and replaced the hood for painting the underside it stopped that and I have to pull and lift together. Same hood, same latch(but possibly slightly different alignment). I guess it may be possible to alter it someway to get it back as it was, but I've not tried yet.

    Are you sure that the springs are weak? It could be the hinges are gummed up with decades old grease and dirt. I cleaned the hinges (all of the pivot points) with contact cleaner to remove all of the grease and dirt, then used a light machine oil and the hood opens smooth as butter. Also...Make sure the hood isn't dragging on the fenders on either side.
