The B17 Nine-o-Nice crashed today in Hartford. She was on tour with passengers on board. Fatalities and injuries reported. I don't really know how to put this. That airplane was very close to my family. My wife was a mechanic on her for years before she became a stay-at-home Mom. She specialized on the engines and sheet metal. I asked her to marry me in the cockpit. Her brother flew her on tour for some time.

She was a beautiful airplane, and she meant a lot to my family. She was only one of a few left in the world. No word on the fatalities yet, but chances are we knew them.

I really don't know what else to say. I'm just glad our kids had at least one chance to see "mommy's airplane" earlier this year...

Is that the one that used to come to the plane show in New Smyrna Beach?

That Plane was here 3 weeks ago at the Millville Airport where we had a Wheels and Wings show, I walked around it several times and spoke to someone with the plane who might have been the pilot on it today....terrible news very tragic.

Yes, that was it. She was one of a group of aircraft that have their annual maintenance done in New Smyrna. That's where my wife worked. I've flown on Nine-o-nine several times. It was an incredible experience.

I may be mistaken, but I recall a guy who was the actual tail gunner on that plane. He was there when I went to the show once. A lot of great stories.

Last time I saw 909 was at the Long beach Airport Airshow in 2014 . I was in awe looking at all the bombing missions decals on the nose of the aircraft she made during WWII . I also got to go onboard and walk thru the aircraft also got to talk with the crew
