I heard somewhere here a few years back that the rear end gear on old trucks and suburban 10 bolts can be used in our cars. Is this true? they are the 8.5, just longer axles, right? What were the factory gears used in a 77 2wd c/k10 suburban? I'm considering getting the ring and pinion off of a parts truck I have access to, and I'm wanting to know if they'll work, and what else I can use...

All 8.5 ring & pinion gears will swap, even the ones in the front of 4X4 trucks. If you have an Impala or Caprice with the speed sensor on the pinion shaft then you will need a gear set that is made for this sensor.
