Looks like the car has an earlier model year tilt steering column. The 81 should have the summer on the column. This column doesn't have it. Also, the blinkers don't work... where do I start? Anyone have a link to a wiring diagram I can print? Maybe a blinker module bad? Guessing that when the p.o. put in the column, he never hooked up the blinker wiring or put in a floor dimmer....obviously. Thank you

Fyi, I tried looking at the stickies but most diagrams were photobucket and I refuse to pay for a subscription to them....

The dimmer should be on the floor for an 81.

The signal light flasher is on the fuse block. (There should be 2 of them. One is for hazard lights.)

    Check fuses also.

I have diagrams in my old Haynes manual but I won't be able to post them until next week.

    Welcome and good luck!

Look up 1981 Camaro fuse block diagram on google There should be a diagram .And if you don`t have a printer .Go to your public library and have one made. Then check your fuses. I have a 1979 Camaro Z-28 RS,And a 1981 El Camino SS. I had that issue with my El Camino .And it was just the fuse. And if it has an earlier column the dimmer switch should be on the floor. If they did it correctly.Good luck to you.

Thanks guys. I'm pretty sure I read that the 81 has the dimmer on the column.... It's definitely not on the floor. I will google this fuse block diagram. was just looking for some sticky or resource on here. I really hate what photobucket has done btw....

Maybe it is just out of blinker fluid? (Couldn't resist!)

floor mount dimmer switches accumulate a ton of crap in them over the years and they rust internally causes intermittent or permanent problems. For $10 replace the dimmer switch before you do anything else.

The dimmer is on the floor of the 81. I have also the 81 look under the carpet. It should be in the top left corner. Never heard or seen it on the column.
