So what is the best way to clean off the anti-rust preventative that SCAT applies to their crankshafts when they are shipped? This is my first bottom end build and I don't want to screw up this new crank.

And always a good idea to really clean out the oiling holes, never know what might be left in one, do some major damage.

Good advice I am gonna try some paint stripper first and if that doesnt work then some adhesive remover since it is sticky to the touch

Try WD-40 to remove the rust inhibitor, spray it on and let it soak for awhile.

Make sure you use rifle brushes to clean the oil passages, sometimes some crud gets left in those...

If its a cast crank its really not a polished finish and should be polished. Is the crank balanced ?? If its not balanced for you pistons and rods its should be balanced.

Forged cranks have a much better finish then the cast cranks.

Brake clean brushes should work fine.

Its a cast 383 stroker crank that came with rods. I will try the wd-40 method first, then if it takes the stuff off I will polish each journal until they shine using maybe 2000 grit wet sandpaper. I finished making a pistion pin jig today to hold the piston in place with an adjustment screw so after I heat up the rod end I can slide the wrist pin right through to the stop. I saw the idea off of the Goodson site.
