I'm still in the bodywork phase so I haven't spent much time inside the car yet.
I've known the dome light needed a lens but never worried with it, I was just checking out new lenses and it hit me, there's a 1st gen dome light in my car!
All the dome lights I found in searching brought up the round lenses.

I know this is pretty insignificant, I just think it's interesting because this is one of the first '70's made, I guess they were using up 1st gen parts in the beginning.
I did a search and found nothing about '70's having this style dome light.

Are you sure it came from the factory that way? I have a later run '70 and it had the round light with studs in the roof reinforcement where yours is screwed in! (at least they look like screws from here) If you are interested it will take very little effort/money to change it back.

Of course my dome light has not been working for quite some time, I did not take the time to make sure that the wiring was perfect. PLUS like a bonehead, I replaced some of the missing wire supports with regular hardware with screws and you guessed it. . .dimpled my roof running too long of screws up from the inside!

The wiring looks pretty original from here, no splices noticed....that is pretty cool!

David, what are the last 6 digits of your VIN?

The vin ends with L500030, build date is 01A.

I have no way of knowing for sure that it is original to the car, but it looks to have been in there for a long time now. I just thought it was interesting.

Is it possible that the original harness was used and the 1st generation bezel was replaced post production for some reason? My guess is that the harness /bulb are vertually interchangable between 1st and 2nd gens. so this trade using the original harness would be easy and still look factory. I would look to see if the holes in the headframe look OE and if the other holes for the round bezel show signs of being used. (Assuming that the bezel holes are in different locations). Just my .02$!
