I’ve got a 4 spd Muncie and shifter from a 69 vette.......when I bolt this up to the bell housing in 79 second gen, the shifter looks like it sits too far to the right side of the hole in the tunnel and I can’t even run it through the shift pattern. The shifter hits the side of the tunnel. Are the shifters different from vette to Camaro?

Im hoping that this is simply a shifter issue. I had assumed Camaro and vette shifters were the same........but I’m doubting it now. Just need a bit of advice.

You will need a Hurst shifter specific for your Camaro and year.

That’s the answer I was prepared for, Thank You.

I’m going to assume the shift rods are the same and are moot?

I believe the corvette has one of it's shift arms with a curve , the camaro one is all strait down, if the rods are adjustable , they may work with the other shifter

The rods are adjustable, so I’ll see how it goes with a different shifter. My only concern is getting the correct shifter. The 79 originally came with a b/w trans and I’m putting in a early Muncie. I guess that a shifter for a 74 should work. It’s an expensive “guess” with a $300+ dollar shifter.

The shifter bolts to the left side of the tail housing. If its just too far right, why not just make a spacer to move it the right amount?

If you don't want to fab, I doubt you need a new shifter mechanism, just the adapter plate between the box and the tail housing.....

By using a spacer the shift rods will no longer be in line with the shift arms on the trans.

I though about a spacer, but felt that the rod alignment would be prone to binding. We’re talking a good 2” or more of offset.
