I am not sure who's building your turbo 400's but I just went through mine after 25 years of beating on it from 400hp to 700hp on NOS and the only thing that looked bad was the front pump. All the clutches were slightly worn but everything else was fine. Are you using a transbrake with your car? if so that would explain a busted trans. In all my years of putting turbo 400's together the only one that went bad was when like a dummy I put the beveled snap ring in wrong (did it twice) and had no 2nd gear. I think a redone turbo 400 from Hughes would work great or like guys say here Jakeshoe does very good work. A 4L80E is just a turbo 400 with an overdrive.

A good shop can build a TH400 that will take your horsepower and torque levels with no problem, but it will be costly. A 4L80E built to that level will be a lot more with the electronic controller, but gives that extra gear for the highway. I don't know your exact situation but "most" transmission shops don't know how to properly build a transmission to that level.

I would suggest a TCI Super Streetfighter TH400. I ran TCI's in the past and they always performed well for me.
