Were front shoulder belts an option in 1973 or were they standard equipment? The belt design is so strange, I often hear people not even running the shoulder belt. So what's the deal with these funky belts?

    Thanks

They were standard by that time, I guess the funky two piece design was the best they could come up with, my 70 Lemans had the same belts, my dad's 60 nova had lap belts only. The Morris Classic Concepts work pretty well to replace our old belts with.

Lap belts were standard starting in 1964 for all cars built after January 1, 1964. The back seat passengers were on their own though. Shoulder harnesses were added in 1968.

I had asked this same question a year ago. The 70s had shoulder belts as standard equipment. As with mine most of the cars are missing them and they seem to be hard to find.
