I have a friend that has the 350 HO in his 69Z. It runs good and has great street manners. I went with the ZZ383 in my 81Z and the performance difference is big. The stroker has more torque and gives the car way more low and mid range power which is what you want for the street, and a fairly heavy car. The 383 burns more fuel though. The 350 HO has a 650 vac holley, my car has a 750 DP holley. Both need 93 octane. Seems this is where you make the jump in money and performance.
350 hp going to 400+hp. Lots of good engines out there, just my experience with these 2.

Depends on what you wanna spend but if money is not an issue I go with the GM ZZ6 Engine.

I have the GM 350 HO in my Camaro and it's been a solid engine.

400hp for 8K WTF, I can build a heck of a 427 street SBC for that and it would make 575hp easy. GM has sure gotten greedy with their pricing on aftermarket engines. My old service manager bought a HO 502 years ago and that thing was a pig and he said it will run low 11's, he was off by over a second and a half car ran mid to high 12's.

Like you said, change the cam and oil pan and have a 425hp engine.

Bought the Blueprint 383 430 hp 2 years ago. No leaks , run great, comes with a roller cam. Lots of TQ and Blueprint says it revs to 6200. Great value compared to other engines. Also thier Tech response is quick , honest and accurate.
