L31R replacement. Transfer your oil pan, get correct intake manifold.

If I'm spending serious money on a crate engine it will have a roller cam and modern design heads.

AFAIK, they're using ATK/Profiler heads now. They used Dart's for a while, and a call to ATK would clarify the issue.

Good to see you back Brandon, thought you were AWOL. :)

Just a side note, I put an Edelbrock ProFlo 4 on my ATK 385, it's a whole new world.

Ok, must be a link to an older ad for the engine.

Hi Brandon, just so you know, 3rd summer on my ATK SB64195 heads, running like a champ. 6500 rpm every day with a 530 lift roller cam, and no float from the springs.

I have an 80Z with 104K on it. The Original block but Vortec heads and punched .040 and a Stroker kit (388 Ci) with a 2004R 4 speed auto and Original 3.42 rear. Don't go with anything Flat tappet (which is why I'm .040 instead of .030) 2 cams trashed in less than a year, first lasted 12 months and 2nd lasted 1 month and took a piston with it. This was when they changed the oil formulation and didn't tell anyone. I went Hyd roller so that's no longer an issue. With the 4 speed auto you might want to bump to 3:73.1 as the 3.42 does 1500 @ 45 mph in 4th with 275/50-15's. Running Heddman shorty's now but started trying to stay stock with exhaust and Air pump but when the state discontinued inspections I went past that.

    Hey Brent,

We were, but Pro-Filer left us hanging and caused us to lose a substantial amount of $ not being able to fill orders over a year old. Had to part ways.

Nice to be back, its been crazy here building a new shop and a new operating system that had the code break on launch....what a nightmare! Its still crazy, but we have got over most of the big hurdles and are settled in the new building now. Lots of big things to come :bowtie:

I bet! The EFI kits make a heck of a difference. Smoother fuel maps, less smells, better throttle response and mpg....definitely a win there.
