What is the best cam for 1970 LT1 Motor

    Which cam should I use in a 1970 LT1 motor. It's going in a 69 Camaro
    Rear Gear 3:73
    Trans M20
    11:1 Comp
    492 Angel Plug Heads 2.02 valves
    780 Holley

    Here are some cams I am looking at. I want something that will sound like this and perform well and be reliable and drivable. The best of all worlds.

    Stock GM cam that was in the LT1

    This time I went with Solid lifter Crane Part Number: 113841 Grind Number: F-278-2 (REPLACES CC-278-2)

    It sounds better than the LT1 while cruising.

    Crane Cams 113841 Mechanical Flat Tappet
    Specifications:
    • Advertised duration: 278 intake/288 exhaust
    • Duration at .050 in.: 238 intake/248 exhaust
    • Gross valve lift: .480 in. intake/.500 in. exhaust
    • Lobe separation: 114 degrees
    • RPM range: 3000 to 6500
    • Moderate performance usage with centrifugal or Roots supercharger
    • Good mid-range torque and horsepower
    • 10:1 to 11.5:1 comp ratio recommended for naturally aspirated engines
    • 1955-57 265 cid. engines need an oiling groove machined into the rear journal of the camshaft.

    Recommended RPM range with matching components
    Minimum RPM 3000
    Maximum RPM 6800
    Valve Float 7400

    Also using 1.52 Comp Magnum Roller Tip Rockers, part # 1412-16

    I was told by my engine builder that if I went over .500 that I would need head work.

    i'm running a 1970 LT1 but still running the 11.1:1 pistons ,186 cyl heads and a old GM mech flat tappet cam ...GM#140 gen 1 off-road mech flat tappet 257/269 @ .050

    I'm voting for the #140 cam. Bolt on a set of decent headers, and that's what this cam was MADE for.

    ^ + 1000 on that the 140 cam works awesome in my motor and comes alive at about 4k rpm and pulls F'n hard
