You can fit under these cars. Even if I have to do a mini tub. What’s the widest we can fit?
Opinions vary 315 with tubs maybe 335
How hard is it to minitub? You have have to cut the axle?
This member has 18 x 10.5s all the way around, without tubs, and I hope to do the same. See his post: http://nastyz28.com/threads/daily-driver-autocross-1981-z28-ls1.327253/page-2
In regarding to, how hard to mini tub, go to DSE's site, find the year of your car ,for there mini tub and read the install instructions, I believe some members have said around 30-40 hours? However read the install instructions, and watch the video's
Textbook wheel is a 335 with a mini-tubbed sec gen. You could probably squeeze a 345 in there. I run a 18x12 with 5.5” BS on a 56.250” flange to flange rearend
it’s a time consuming job starting with a “together” car. A lot of cutting, fitting and welding. Removing all the seam sealer is time consuming!
Mini rubbed, 335mm tire is possible by adding a 3 inch strip of metal to the center of the wheel well and cutting 3 inch into car and moving the whole stock fender well inward until you are pretty much at the frame rail. Mine was down that way and it did not require a kit. It did require a heck of a lot of work though. Nothing I was prepared to undertake. I had someone else do it. All the undercoating & stuff is definitely a big pain in the butt on these cars. There is tons of it.
Then there was narrowing the rear seat back, moving the hooks and narrowing the bottom cushions. I did all that myself and it took time.
Saved to my favourites:
The hours it takes to to that ^^ is probably the reason people now sell tub kits. It works, but I think that’s even more time consuming then fitting a pre fabricated set.
it is.... because NOW you must save everything you cut out...cause it's going back in. MUCH easier to to have a prefab HALF that already fits.... MUCH easier. Still takes a good amount of work. Certainly MY first one took way more than 30 hrs ...on the tubs and fab work (we didn't have fab kits 30 yrs ago..) after my 3-4 one yeah i could probably make a little time on it at 30 hrs. Like anything else once you do 1 ... you kinda know what your looking AT and what NOT to do on the next one!
