Yours should be like this:
COPO, thanks for your reply. It is my understanding that my car was delivered striped but no spoiler. The spoiler was added to the car before being sold. So I guess I'm saying, the rear stripes on my car are correct "for my car" as it was built with stripes but no spoiler.
Pretty sure in 70-72 when you ordered a Z28, you got a spoiler. There was no "spoiler delete" possibility. In 73 the spoiler became an extra cost option and there are a few legit cars around that do not have a spoiler.
Experts out there correct me if I'm wrong.
In 70 you could get a spoiler delete and also stripe delete. So 71-72 would be the same. All you had to do was tell the GM Dealership that you won’t take delivery of the car if it doesn’t show up how you want it. I’ve seen a 70 Z without a spoiler and Sonny owns a 70 where the orig owner said, I don’t want stripes even though tag said stripes. I’ll look for that pic of a 70 Z with no rear spoiler and post it later.
I knew you could get stripe delete, but had never seen or heard of a spoiler delete. The dealers could take care of many of the customers wishes, but not sure if they wanted to start filling in spoiler holes in trunk lids etc but I guess why not if the customer was paying. Special paint is well known and even has special codes on the Trim Tag.
Personally I have never seen a 70 or 71 Z28 without a spoiler but I believe it could be possible? I have seen pictures of a 1972 Z28 without a spoiler though.
Not sure if the cowl tag would indicate the spoiler delete or not in similar way to the DX3 code for stripe delete?
Here is a previous discussion on a couple of 72 Z28's without spoilers.. some of the links for pics no longer work.
I was going to say the same thing: I’ve never seen a 70-71 without the rear spoiler. I remember seeing a 72 thinking it looked sort of odd.
If it was possible to delete the D80 option (in 1971), aren’t you deleting both spoilers?
I guess anything can happen at the dealership level though.
Dealers wanted to sell cars back in the day and would bent over backwards to make it happen.
1972 Z28's came standard without a rear spoiler. A rear spoiler was an option for that year. Nothing is on the trim tag indicating a spoiler or no spoiler on a 1972 trim tag.
