    Having been in a similar situation, I bailed as soon as possible. Best thing I ever did. I can tell you he is doing just enough to placate you. Get out while you can.

    06D may have had the option for Firestone tires. In 1970 and 1971, I never saw a 70 Z28 without Goodyear tires.

    I do what most do, but I also take it to the base and put it on a lift to look at the underside. You learn a lot about things you cannot normally see.

    I never saw a 1970 Z28 in 1970 or 1971 with Firestones. I assumed every 70 Z28 got the Goodyear F60-15 Polyglas tires. Mine had them and I never thought of putting on anything else. I am one of the few that really liked the way they handled on the car, much better than radials for performance...

    Flapper piece? I rebuilt the vents including the floor vent. That flapper? I refreshed the rubber with rubber restoring chemicals and I painted the parts.

    You need new neighbors! Oh, and I rebuilt my original vents. It wasn't that hard and there are several refinishing paints available.

    The even better news for us 70 owners is the number on the block doesn't really matter. The number on the side of the motor near the oil filter AND the POP matters most.

    I had the same problem when I tried to use OER handles on my restoration. I ended up spending about $250 and having my originals refurbished at the local chrome shop. I wanted to keep as many of the original parts as possible. If you go that route, be sure the shop can really do pot metal...

    '70 Z-28 Manual Steering

    The rag joint is OK. It could probably use a new rubber disc to reduce vibration, but that's another issue. The steering box has a "detent" it falls into when the shaft is at center. My guess is the guy who installed it for me today moved it off center to get the shaft back into the rag joint.

    Update. The original box just doesn't cut it. I suspect the worm gear is worn beyond adjustment. I ordered a replacement from Borgeson. We installed it today...WOW. What a difference! Even with the new polyglas tires, it moves back and forth like it did when I first got it (the car). I guess...

    I received it electronically from the library keeper at the Heritage Museum. As to the year the picture was taken, I suspect it is early 1970. The "Introducing" sign seems apparent but I have no idea when and where this was taken.
