    Isn't that called a poser? :p

    Rear ended vent question

That's how they come from the factory. A piece of hose attached to a vent, weather rear or transmission will reduce the chance of water other grime entering the system. Mostly used on 4x4 though.

    12 Bolt set up questions

All of the above ^^^ 👍 Regarding Q #3: instructions say 150lbs/ft, but many agree that tighter/as tight as your air gun allows is OK. In the end, the solid shim won't budge and the nut gets fastened even more tightly.

Driveline Angles - what to shim

Don't forget checking bushing condition/movement. Worn rubber can make you chase ghosts, not only with cars :p

    Rear-end vent?

Correct, I've changed the flimsy plastic vent for a metal one when I was doing a full rebuild of the rear end.

    Rear-end vent?

If you're positive there's no venting at all, you can drill and tap the top of one tubes and install one there.

    Rear-end vent?

There should be one somewhere on top on the flat area towards the pinion. Maybe someone closed it off and it's under the dirt. You should have a vent, otherwise if the oil gets (too) hot and builds ups pressure, it will find it's way out through the weakest link: seals.

TH350 Rebuild Online: Free DIY Post

Yep, a common procedure. You can also use tubulator plates in the same area to reduce lo/rev drag.

12 Bolt Rear End Condition/Rebuild Questions

Throughout the assembly you should simulate pinion preload by tightening the (old) pinion nut, without the crush/solid shim, until within the specs (18 - 22 in/lbs). This assures that the pattern won't change on the final assembly.

    Rate My Gear Pattern

Crappy pics. No need to mark all teeth, just 4 to 5. Must make better pics, close ups @ 90°, both sides. Pattern looks on the deep side to me.

12 Bolt Rear End Condition/Rebuild Questions

A couple of remarks: Not the best pics: quite difficult to see the pattern, especially the drive side. Looks like the pattern is a bit on the deep side on the drive side but shallow on coast? Add resistance to ring gear with one hand and turn the mesh by axle for a better readable pattern...

Truss - Alternative to tube welding?

Just thinking out loud: very heavy duty, counteracting the upward motion where most force is pushing the tubes rearward IMO, one doesn't exclude the other - I would do both mods.

    Rebulding 10 bolt, rotational torque?

Good catch 76. Fully assembled can mean several things indeed. With carrier installed it will be a lot more, partially depending on the gear ratio. Have a formula to calculate the drag depending on the gear ratio somewhere but used it only once. 99.9% of the time, I measure the drag on the...

    Rebulding 10 bolt, rotational torque?

For sure not. A shim adds approximately 5 in/lbs to the pre load, not 25. Probably you didn't have enough solid shims in the stack and used less force to torque the nut than on your final assembly. Then when you fully torqued it down (125 - 150 lbs/ft?) you tightened the bearings too much...

12 Bolt Rear End Condition/Rebuild Questions

Anything close to 150lbs/ft is good and less than 100lbs/ft is rebuild material if my memory serves me well. Pics of gears without compound don't tell anything. Also, can't make much of your specs: back lash on used gears will probably be somewhere between 12 and 15 thousands, what do you...
