1979 Camaro Engine Removal (hood clearance)

I'm installing a long-block 383 next week and was curious if hood clearance is an issue on 2nd gens. We had the hood off when I installed the engine 18 years ago. If I can not remove the hood, that would be preferred. I don't plan on installing the intake until the engine is in the car.

    BluePrint Engines 383 Stroker Install

Thanks for the quick run-down. I spoke with BPE and they said the stock push-rod is fine which makes sense based on your explanation.

    BluePrint Engines 383 Stroker Install

Thanks for your time! I've confirmed my aftermarket Accel HEI distributor has a melonized gear. I still need to call BPE Monday to confirm the type of fuel pump push rod I need.

    BluePrint Engines 383 Stroker Install

It's a hydraulic roller cam. As I mentioned in a reply below, I'm learning the intricacies of a roller cam. I'm leaning towards not having to upgrade anything but everyone is right. This can very much be solved by a call to BPE.

    BluePrint Engines 383 Stroker Install

Ya it is a street car. I'm new to the roller cam game. It is a hydraulic roller cam. Maybe that is why there isn't a need for anything special. I'm learning that there are differences between a solid roller vs. hydraulic roller cam. I probably should brush up on my Engine Masters haha

    BluePrint Engines 383 Stroker Install

Good to know about the distributor gear. I will have to double check what my Accel distributor has right now. All very easy upgrades at this point in the project. I called BPE tech but the wait was longer than I had time for yesterday. Definitely will try as soon as they open Monday. In the...

Thanks for the info. I figured as much, but wanted to check.

    BluePrint Engines 383 Stroker Install

I am about to install a crate 383 from BP Engines. It arrives Monday (who knew Christmas could be in May!) so I am gathering all the odds and ends needed for the swap. The engine is upgraded to a roller cam so I need to know if it is necessary to replace the fuel pump push rod and the...

    Oil Leaking Around Rear Bolt

Thanks for the reply. It’s a cruiser so aN OE pan works just fine for my application.

    Oil Leaking Around Rear Bolt

That’s my plan moving forward. I thought maybe spending a little extra money on a name brand like Milodon would be beneficial but turns out it wasn’t. I’m hoping to get it put back together next weekend.

    Oil Leaking Around Rear Bolt

On the passenger side there appears to be welding/soldering slag which would interfere with the spreader doing its job I think. I'm thinking about trying to pre-load the spreader to see if I can get it to pull to the pan. The turnaround time with Summit is like 2 weeks between return and receipt...

    Oil Leaking Around Rear Bolt

Thanks COPO. My concern is the pan is defective again. There shouldn’t be any gap between the torque spreader tabs and the oil pan right? I don’t think the torque of the bolt is enough to crush the tab to the pan.

    Oil Leaking Around Rear Bolt

Update to my oil pan issues. After removing the pan I noticed the torque spreader tab on the passenger side rear bolt was not sitting flush to the pan. It appeared to be a defect and makes sense given that oil is pouring out of that bolt. I had summit warranty the pan and I just received a new...

    Oil Leaking Around Rear Bolt

Ya I'm going through the same emotional roller coaster thinking it is somehow my fault too! haha I am using a Milodon factory replacement pan. It seems to fit really nice, so I'm not sure if I'm running into the same issue as I would if it were a chrome pan. I'm gonna give the permatex 2 option...

    Oil Leaking Around Rear Bolt

Thanks everyone for the insight. Including the comic relief with the urinal comment haha. This engine has really been frustrating and I've posted a couple times about it in the past. In addition to it leaking out of the rear bolt, it now leaks from the gasket rails. I can watch it ooze out of...

    Oil Leaking Around Rear Bolt

Just successfully replaced (almost) my oil pan. Oil is leaking past the rear passenger side bolt. I’ve tried gooping the bolt with RTV but no luck. Any thoughts? More RTV? Haha

2-Piece Rear Main Seal Oil Pan

Thanks for the responses. Sounds like my leak is operator error then. The leak has always been a "drip drip" leak that is more of nuisance than anything. It is a pain replacing the pan/gasket with the engine still in the car. Hopefully I can get it right this time.

2-Piece Rear Main Seal Oil Pan

Can someone explain the difference between a 2 piece vs 1 piece rear main seal oil pan? I've always fought an oil leak out the back of the oil pan "half moon" and I'm curious if I mismatched oil pans. It's an aftermarket block (2 piece RMS/passenger side dipstick). I know most passenger side...
