Good idea with the fuel pressure most likely cause. I had a brand new 95 S10 with the 4 cyl. those things don't have any power from the factory.
Been there, done that with big and small blocks both with transmissions and aluminium intakes. No problems.
I have the same cover except is says "summit" on it, never seen one with a bowtie. Could always have "summit" milled off and maybe a bowtie engraved?
Great project start. If it is a 8.5 10 bolt it will be fine with the proper parts.

Maybe a spacer under the carb? If it is boiling the fuel in the bowls not actually the line?

It is easy to remove the driveshaft and tail housing. 4 bolts each. Remember when you pull the driveshaft out of the tranmission fluid will come...
