Fuel needs for hi compression engine

Well, if it has 12:1 compression, it's not totally stock now, if so, on a 4.00 x 3.48 OEM 350 ci, you need only 65cc at TDC to hit 12:1 CR by way of approx. 13cc domes or heavy milled heads down to 51cc in a typical 350 sbc, if it's the later, you are better in many ways. How "high" is the...

    Random Poor Running/Stalling

OK, from the sounds of it, it could be a combination of mounting location/pickup and/or electrical/relay issues. I've been down this road so many times decades ago with electric pumps.....just went back to the "KISS" way of doing things. A good investment is an AFR gauge, that may in fact...

    Random Poor Running/Stalling

Ah, ok...the old Carter electric pump, could be a voltage issue, or internal regulator issue. It should be mounted lower than the fuel level to have it naturally gravity fed. I used those as a "helper" back in the day, but not on it's own. Is the stock sending/pickup unit 3/8 or is it smaller...

Sold all my SBC Bowtie heads

And they are using a 1206 opening for that small pinch.....well, at least you have the ability to set the MCSA at the pinch for what you want/need. Even the DART 200/215 use the 1205 in many cases.

    Random Poor Running/Stalling

Yes, very good idea to get the fuel pressure gauge to the "line of sight" so as to monitor what it's doing when the issue presents itself. Keep in mind, but im sure you know this, that pressure and volume are two separate entities directly connected. You can have pressure, but no volume, and...

    another 2pc RMS diagnostics

Ah yes, VR1 most likely eh, same here, but I wait till 170* water and 160* oil temps before leaning on it. Standard pressure "Shark Tooth" with 15% more volume to take care of the built in wicker basket leaks I have in there. Sorry for the Hi-Jack...., now back to the regularly scheduled program

    Random Poor Running/Stalling

To bad you are not close to me....I have carbs for you try...many of them. Question, what does your fuel pressure or AFR gauge do when you have this problem??

    another 2pc RMS diagnostics

Are you using a 15w50 or 20w50 multi weight oil in that 427 ??? don't jazz the throttle when cold LOL. I know many see high oil "pressure" on the gauge as a good thing....I don't....pressure is the resistance of flow.

    Shock recommendations for 78 Z28

No, you are not overthinking this....they (Napa) did not have what you asked for, and just gave you what the crossover was....KYB, and were in stock. Those KYB's are complete junk for our cars.....get the Bilstein's, worth the wait and the money, or Koni.

    Plug read opinion

Ah, OK, a blown application. But, still a crapshoot reading plugs like that, even tough when done correctly. I'm with Bandit723, a cranking comp. test could show something. With those oily plugs I would check intake gaskets/tq and considering I see peppering on #3, I would say some are lean at...

    Plug read opinion

I've seen cold plugs that can't get to self cleaning temp and the rich mixture of today crappy fuel could build up residue and make it look close to oil fouled. Toss in a less than perfect PCV/guide/ intake gasket, and it can fool you, even on one side of the porcelain. Are these like TR5's...

    Red line and plug question

Good on the fuel issue. Perhaps a bad pickup coil, or box. Is it a MSD Digital box ? they had some issues when they came out.

    4000rpm lean miss?

I would make sure you have fresh fuel, none Ethanol if it's going to sit a lot. If timing/ignition and fuel delivery is up to par, I would try and adjust the vacuum secondary spring, perhaps due to the large venturi of the 850, combined with a potential weaker signal is manifesting itself with...

    Red line and plug question

If the valve train is well designed and stable, and the ignition is up to par, then yes, you CAN turn it more, especially if it's pulling and still in it's sweet spot. That being said, I will assume you no longer have, or have corrected the "fuel problem" as in your previous post to this one.

    subframe connectors 1981 z28 t top

Well, I'll take that YT video with a grain of salt..... These cars did in fact come factory with the BBC in 1970/71/72, did it add more weight, yes, but not automatically more TQ and HP, that's based on the engine combo. Trans/rear gears and tire design and suspension has just as much impact...

    Broke the bellhousing today

I will not use Poly mounts on the trans....use solid on the block and mid plate/mounts no issues, but rubber on the trans & just snugged up.

    Plug read opinion

Pic #1 looks like oil fooling on #5 and 4, assuming it's following the firing order. Pic#2 looks like oil fooling on #1,7,2 and 8. Peppering on #3. What plug exactly, heat range? Take a clear pic like this.

Trying to decide on which leafs to buy…

Yep, same here. Took it to the drags, slicks on and no issues. I was even thinking of trying 225#, but staying 200# for now. Maybe even just a new set in the future

    subframe connectors 1981 z28 t top

Yes, interesting, but our second Gen sub-frame/unitized construction is different in design, and suffers from the cantilever effect. Sub frame connectors, and front Y braces does a great job in greatly limiting that effect, hence there popularity in the aftermarket over the years.

Trying to decide on which leafs to buy…

I have no idea what stock was/is. But it sits right where it needs to be for my setup. I went through 3 sets of springs before I settled on a set. I went by actual rear scale weights and spring rates available, settle on 200# with a true arch of 5".
