I mentioned yesterday That the Parts place is reproducing the colored inserts (Yellow), but i saw other colors too. So, in case you are restoring your original door handles you can get these inserts.
I couldn't find any light copper inserts for my car during resto, so we decided on paint and clear instead. Just another option to consider.

I have bought NOS GM inserts before for my 74 handles , they came in a flat white primer ready to paint as needed. They worked out perfect .

I know this was discussed last year, but I just want to clear something up. I have had for several years a pair of OER door handles. Members are saying that the reproduction door handles and even the later GM OEM handles do not fit into one of the holes in the door skin. I am sure it is the side that has the larger arm with the spring. I measured the length of the rivet that goes thru the spring and is riveted on one side, it is exactly one inch long. So does that mean that the original bolt or rivet was 15/16 inches long and would fit. If anybody has a used or NOS door handle, could you measure it.
Thanks John.
I am the original owner of a 1973 LT RS. My camaro does have the original doors. When I went to replace the door handles I found that the repo handles were not the right size. They only fit the repo doors. I was able to track down an original pair but looking through my paperwork I can't find where I purchased them from. Sorry.

Thank you for that extra information. Wow you have to grind down two things to fit. I remember a couple of members said they used reproduction door handles and had no problem either they were lucky or had repro door skins. This was last year. Earlier today I came across a site that reproduces the colored insert for the handle, but the only color was yellow. How many Camaros had yellow exterior color, not many I would guess.
John.
"The Parts Place" has most of the decals for colored inserts in the door handles. Unfortunately for me, the don't identify them by color number, only by names, such as light blue, bright blue, dark blue... And I've yet to be able to match my GM code 26 color. Several other distributors (like Camaro Central, Muscle Car Central, and most anybody who sources from the parts place) will also have access to the decals. Hope that helps...

I guess we have to realize, we do not own BMW's or Mercedes's Benz's. I mentioned yesterday That the Parts place is reproducing the colored inserts (Yellow), but i saw other colors too. So, in case you are restoring your original door handles you can get these inserts.

Hi John, I have read a few things about inserts but am still unclear, was this an option or a particular yr that such a thing existed ?

Thanks

I had trouble with the OER handles not fitting. I sent out my originals, nasty as could be, and they came back perfect.
It was money well spent, and they fit like stock! ;)

If when you ordered your Camaro and you chose the Z-21 option you received chrome Moulding on the back of the hood and tips of the fenders and on top of the door, plus dual concentric chrome rings on the rear taillight lenses and colored tape on the door handles. I think it was only from 1970-73 Camaro's.
