I bought VF3 bumpers for my 1970 Camaro SS. My car did not have any bumpers, nor did not have a build sheet due to its rusted out in the trunk area. The bottom section of the tail panel was cut out as well when I bought it. So why not add an option to my car. My question is concerning the rear bumper fangs. From what I have read these where for Z/28only? Or, when you ordered VF3 option did these fangs or bumperttes come on all Camaro's due to the option. Thank you for your time, Shawn
The only way you could get rear bumper guards for a 70-72 was either by ordering a Z28 or any car with the VF3 option (yes, you could also get a Z28 with VF3). In 73, a Z28 did not have the rear bumper guards due to the brackets being taller to where the bumper sticks out farther (part of the federal crash mandate). Therefore, the guards would not sit against the lower tail panel. Also, no VF3 option in 73. Probably for the same reason.
The rear guards were not a special order by themselves. Z28s got them as part of the package, and they were also included in the VF3 option. Other than that, Camaros didn't get them unless the owner bought his own and modified the car.
Thank you for everyone's knowledge. So, if I ordered my Camaro SS in 1970, I order the VF3 option, these guards would be on 70 SS. Even though the guards are Z28's all the time.
